Voyage of the Palantir Part IV |
12-6-90 - Floyd - Lime CayKinda quiet here in Port Royal, everybody has left for French harbor never more to be seen, or maybe it is like Hotel California, you can check in but never leave. The C - section arrived finally and we had some fun, Timshell had a party and kept dis inviting Fomalhaut, kinda bad situation but try not to hold it against them, they sure did alot for us. Weather crappy again, didn’t get much sleep last night adjusting dock lines on Palantir. Went into Coxen Hole yesterday to renew our visa and back to French Harbor, they are playing the same old games, only three months, bullshit. We rode "3 Kids" back to Port Royal with all the roofing materials for Parham’s roofs that are leaking like a sieve. Lots of running around and not much fun but one of these days we might have some sunny skies for more that 2 days. 12-9-90 - Floyd - Lime CayThe latest Norther has gone by, still lots of rain showers going by but much better I think. Installing new roof on caretaker’s house, found some new muscles for sure. Old shingles are a regular "Biosphere" of life, ants, earwigs, cenipeeds and lizards. Parham decides we are taking advantage of him and so we only do the one roof, ah well! 12-24-90 - Floyd - Lime CayXmas Eve and a Yo HO HO just the way I like it, in the tropics. Out to Fomalhaut with Rum toddys, Spot and Moto can’t stand it and swim out to the boat. I rescue them and they celebrate with us trailing along behind in the whaler. 1-24-91 - Jan - Lime CayMuy claro dia... counting the sea grass. Having Havalah over for dinner w/Susie and Stewart and of curse Spot. Sunset from the widow’s peak widened the table and all six w/room to pass the garlic bread. Windy stars and Ann and Bob putt putt back to a tiny light in the distance. 1-25-91 - JanOnward to the highest point of Port Royal. Havalah comes along. Steep but managable - green blades clinging like fingers to your pants legs. Stops to look at la vista. Could see Guanaja in the misty distance. Diamond rock - with iglesia nested in a green straw jungle. Ooo-ah sit on a rock listen to the wind - rest on FLoyd’s shoulder and watch the buzzards scoop at the air. Haunted chirps as they pass. A record breaker time down... explored the grounds and peek in the windows of a wrap around porched house. The owners have died and it is for sale. RIght across from Lime Cay and next to Cree’s - what a spot! All we need is investment money - even a dock for the boat. Plan to return to the top w/a lunch and pillow to spend the day. 1-27-91 - JanBattery dead -again- what’s going on! Whaler over to Sam’s for "Take out" barbeque dinner. Red poka dot bum undulating to the rasta box. a bedlam of kids wiping snot from noses adjusting hair ribbons. Gee wiz - how could I have forgotten to have children? Floyd nude (just the way I like him) walking on the dock toward Palantir - after his evening swim/bath. Finished my laps - feel strong... 1-29-91 - JanHappy birthday Twinkle! ***43*** but not to worry - Floyd’s hair is still receding... Today is the Ladies Luncheon or Gulp and Gossip. We will raise a glass in your honor. Going to get picked up by Quiet Dawn (Betsy and Richard) and some mail too! January: - FloydHah! getting behind, almost Febuary now. Pulled off the fuel pump and injectors and got them to Mario Lopeze in San Pedro Sula. Points were the wrong kind, packing the wrong kind and adjustment of the pump was off. Its a wonder Perkins ran at all! Thanks alot Carlos the Master Mechanico. Write to Cruising World not to get any work done in Costa Rica. Saw some movies, ate some great pizza and went to the mayan ruins at Copan. Jan got some Huevos Rancheros for breakfast one morning, two eggs with ketchup on top. All in all a good trip, dinners for $2, interesting countryside but good to get back. Even got the pump and injectors back in right and running good. Still have to make a smoke test run to be sure. Still waiting for Fomalhaut to talk about Florida. 1-30-91 - JanResting up after Oak Ridge luncheon exhaustin to listen to all that gossip. Important stuff like who had their breasts in-larged. Reef house - windy wavy watching the shrimp boats waddling. Floyd in yellow rain coat to pick us up - good to back on the Cay. Floyd fixing the bow lights one big one and one little on now but both work. Green tool sack has assumed its position again. "Fresh coffee Ole Floyd!" 1-31-91 - JanLast day of Jan... Spot has peed on all his favorite pilings - ho-hum another beautiful day in paradise. Floyd tucked in the V-berth reading Alantic Crossing by Buckley. Gathering strength have to renew our visa on Wed. (Sorry new law, 2 mo max cause of the war, guess we will be illegal for awhile) Crisis! Floyd has run out of cookies! will make up a batch of gingerbread. 2-1-91 - JanStamps up to 29 c - to advance the service no daubt - or for classes on how to learn endless digits zip codes. Heron - watch s shaped neck that turns into a giraffe periscope - grey w/white zigs thin yelow stick legs. Caught two crabs - one as big as his head - swallowed it whole after trimming off the legs. Stalks like a cauiious angle. 2 - (15 to 18)-91 - Floyd - French HarborPropane tanks filled Maggie recovering from Malaria and we’re hiding ut from Parham. Hate to thing what is growing on Sassafrass’s anchor chain. Charles has a good idea "lets go to Cayos Cochinos" The norther has blown thru but the trades are back. Drank the last of my Drambuie so lets get out of Dodge for awhile. |
